Dealing with Constipation in Infants Constipation can be a very uncomfortable condition for anyone of any age but it can be particularly uncomfortable for infants that can't tell you how they feel. An infant's bowel movements are not necessarily predictable nor do they always follow a regular pattern. There are many factors that can make a difference in the frequency of bowel movements. For example, a breast fed infant may not have bowel movements as frequently as a baby that consumes formula. The reason for this is that breast milk leaves little waste.
