Jenny Craig Diet
Jenny Craig was founded in 1983 and offers a comprehensive weight management program that helps clients learn how to eat the foods they want, increase their energy level through simple activity, and build more balance into their lives for optimal weight loss and well-being. The Jenny Craig Program is designed by a Medical Advisory Panel and team of Registered Dietitians, whose recommendations are based on the latest research.
Clients can choose from participating in the program through an In-Center membership or the At-Home program which involves weekly phone "meetings" with a trained consultant. Clients are required to use Jenny Craig menus to develop healthy "portion control habits," then transition to planning their own menus during the maintenance component of the program.
The goal of the Jenny Craig Program is to assist clients make "lifestyle" changes in three areas:
A Healthy Relationship with Food
Along with balanced food choices and portion control, the program emphasizes the importance of tuning into physical/emotional eating cues and the pleasure of eating via menus and online journal--teaching clients to be mindful about what they eat, it also reassures them that all foods can be eaten in moderation.
An Active Lifestyle
The exercise component of the program was developed in consultation with the Cooper Institute and encourages clients to gradually increase activity through a combination of natural, planned and playful physical activities. Maintenance materials also address important variables such as lack of time, ongoing motivation and changing body image.
A Balanced Approach to Living
This area of the program emphasizes cognitive and problem-solving strategies to support clients in managing their stress and emotions.
