Walking for thirty minutes a day is an easy way to enjoy nature and get in shape. When the weather warms up, it's fun to head outdoors and exercise.Walking is a healthy activity and will help you get fit and manage stress. Before beginning a walking program, it's important to know the basics to ensure success and at the same time, prevent injury.

Prior to beginning a new walking behavior make sure you have proper shoes. Walking shoes should be made mostly of leather, which absorbs shock. You should allow a half inch from the end of your longest toe to the end of the shoe. Purchase a pedometer. Keep track of your steps per day. A lot of newer ones now show you calories burnt. Aim to walk for at least thirty minutes or 10,000 steps daily.

Proper form is an important way to keep yourself on pace and injury free. Shorter, quicker steps are better than long strides which can strain the muscles in your legs. Bend your arms and keep your head straight as well. Stand up straight keeping your shoulders relaxed.

When outside add variety to your route. Go from flat to hilly terrain. Doing so will aid in increasing your leg muscles. We're social creatures and everything is better in groups so invite friends along with you. They can keep you company, distract you from the monotony as well as offer needed support.

Every town has a walking club or a mall that has a walking group. If yours doesn't then you can easily start one. During the warmer months you can always find local events like 5k walks. Find carnivals and fairs in your area. Even simple activities like going out to yard sales or the market can offer you simpler solutions to walking.
