Remove Clutter and Remove Stress!

Remove Clutter and Remove Stress!
Stress is a major factor in both illness and anxiety. When times get tough and stress levels are high, no one wants to have to face a home full of clutter. Relieving your home of stress causing clutter, will make both easier to handle and a lot less stressful.

Clutter causes stress. Think about your home for a minute. If things are thrown everywhere and out of place, there is a level of anxiety that creeps into our minds like none other. This level of anxiety is only dismissed when the clutter is removed. Instead of dealing with the stress, why not prevent it from happening all together.

Organization is the key to removing clutter from the home. Simply having a place to sort our belongings and a happy home for all of our “things”, will reduce clutter in the home tremendously. Organization begins with a thoughtful plan and a little effort.

When toys are over abundant in a child's play room, first eliminate all of the toys that are no longer played with on a regular basis. Then, sort the rest of the toys into bins assigned to a specific type of toy. While this effort may seem a little obsessive, when the time comes to straighten a room with organized bins, the stress of the clutter no longer exists. Every toy has a home and every home is easy to access.

The same organization will work with home drawers. Drawers, especially those in kitchens and bathrooms, tend to be a catch all. Everything on a counter top is thrown into a drawer for later sorting. When times get stressful, all it takes is one look in a cluttered draw to send things over the edge. Sorting and decluttering drawers lifts the weight of clutter stress from out shoulders and tends to leave everyone in the home feeler better for the effort. Just as with the toy scenario, begin by removing all things that are no longer used from the drawers. You can assure yourself, if you have not used the item in the drawer for the months it has been tucked away, you probably do not need it in your home. After removing all unneeded items, organize the drawer with a desk organizer and remember to keep only things you need in the drawer in the future.

Closets and dressers also tend to become cluttered in a short period of time. We have all felt the stress and anxiety on those mornings we are running late for some important date and our closets and drawers are such a wreck we can not find a thing. This stress is easy to eliminate by simply keeping things organized and in place. Sort your clothes into the ones you wear most often and the ones that are only for special occasions. Keep the special occasion clothing in one section of the closet and all other clothing neatly organized into shirts, pants, etc...

Removing the clutter from our homes is an easy way to ease the stress in our lives. Stress is never something we want to feel, and the added pressure of disorganization can inevitably lead to arguments, fights and elevated heart rates and blood pressure. By eliminating the unneeded “things” we have held on to for way too long and organizing the remaining rooms and storage areas, life will feel a lot less stressful and a bit more calm every day.
