Sleeping Tips - The Effects of Sleep on Health and Healing
Sleep is something that we all need. Sleep is essential to good health and well-being. When we sleep our bodies are actively healing, repairing and replenishing themselves. If we don't get enough sleep we impair the ability of our bodies to function at optimum efficiency. Sleep aids the healing process and allows the body to repair itself.
Did you ever notice how all you want to do is sleep when you have the flu or are otherwise sick? Sleep is one of nature's ways in which healing takes place. When we deprive ourselves of sleep we deprive our bodies of their natural healing. The brain needs sleep too. In fact, it cannot function properly without it. Insufficient sleep affects learning, concentration, the ability to focus, reflexes, coordination and even mood. People who are sleep deprived suffer from impaired coordination, slower reflexes, irritability and more.
Getting adequate sleep not only affects your health but also your weight. Insufficient sleep and/or irregular sleep patterns can bring about hormonal changes that affect metabolism and appetite. Lack of sleep can adversely affect your mind and body in many ways. It is important to get sufficient sleep. If you have difficulty sleeping you should consult your physician since many people often suffer from undiagnosed sleep disorders.
Here are a few tips to help your sleep soundly.
Make a conscious effort to regulate your sleep time by going to bed at the same time each night and waking at the same time. Establishing and sticking to a regular sleep schedule can help to assure you get a sufficient amount of sleep.
Eliminate distractions. Turn off the lights and the television. It is easy to become engrossed in a movie or television program and stay awake longer than you intended. If you eliminate the distractions it will be easier to fall asleep.
Take a warm bath before bedtime. Taking a warm bath helps you to unwind. It helps your body and mind to relax and prepare for sleep. Add some scented oil or bubble bath and allow all the stress and tension to drift from your mind. In no time you should be ready for a night of sweet slumber.
