Am I Eating Enough Food?
Eating healthy food does not mean you are controlling your weight. It is also important to know how much you eat and how often!
Eating the correct amount of food is important to maintain the physiological metabolism of your body. Eating less may lead to various eating disorders like Bulimia, Anorexia Nervosa, Binge-Eating Disorder and so on. There are various factors that control our eating. Some of them are individual's appetite, family atmosphere, body weight, and self control. The growing impact of fashion is also an important factor in influencing food intake in young generation. Young people, especially girls are so influenced with the skinny figures of the models that they eat very less in order to achieve the same figure, which in long term leads to some type of disorder. On the other hand eating too much is also a problem which not only causes obesity but puts the person at risk for various other diseases. Eating proper balanced diet is very important and eating adequate quantity is equally important.
How will I know that I am eating enough food?
Most of us are not aware of words like "portions" and "servings".
A 'portion' is the amount of food that you eat at a time.
A 'serving' is the amount listed on the Nutrition facts of the product.
Sometimes these two values match and at times they are different too!
Remember that the amount written on nutritional facts of the product is not the amount recommended to eat. It is to make you aware of the nutrients and calories in a certain amount of that food.
Check the 'servings per pack' on the nutrition facts to know the amount of servings per container. Surprised to know that you were eating two to three servings at a time?
A sound knowledge of standard serving size will keep a track on how much you are eating.
Keep a routine to use measuring cups to measure portions of food after comparing them with standard serving size while eating. This will let you know the difference in the amount of food that you consume daily and the amount that should be consumed.
The easiest way to keep track on the amount of food you eat is to keep a record of the routine food intake in a diary.
But there is no general hard and fast rule which can be applicable to everybody. One should keep in mind the kind of work he/she does plus his/her body structure. Those who do physical labor need to eat a little more than those who hardly move during the day. You should eat the amount of food which keeps you active and you don't feel stuffed.
