When trying to lose weight, people are often caught up in a storm of diet tips and tricks that promise to shed 30 pounds in 10 days or less. The reality of the situation is amidst all of the talk, there are a few tips that people tend to forget and these tips are the ones that work for the long haul.

• Drink plenty of water. Sure, everyone has seen the memo on drinking water. But, did you know that when trying to lose weight many people often confuse hunger with thirst. Water is the best fluid to consume, but any calorie free beverage can be used to curb that feeling in the pit of your stomach that feels like hunger during those first few weeks of a reduced calorie plan.

• Exercise often. Another common direction when trying to lose weight. But again, these terms can be confused. Exercise does not have to mean running 5 miles every morning. Picking up the heart rate for 10 minutes, three times a day can be more beneficial than trying to tackle that marathon in a few short weeks of training.

Losing weight is all about eating less and moving more. When thirsty, drink. When not thirsty, drink anyway. And move that body for at least a few minutes a couple of times a day and you will see the benefits of these simple tips in no time at all. Better than losing 30 pounds in 10 days only to gain it all back in 20, huh?
