Ever wake up one morning and say to yourself: “I want a change”? And you wind up not knowing quite what you want, just that you do? You head out to your favorite salon and ask them to do what they think will work, putting yourself in their hands. You might as well lay down in traffic.

If you walk in not knowing what you want then it’s best to not walk in at all. No one wants a surprise. Especially one that the salon won’t be responsible for! Sure it’ll grow out but why would you want to walk around with something you can’t stand? It’s best if you take the time to think things thru.

Look thru fashion and style magazines. Rip out pages of styles you like and compare them side by side and pick out the ones you like the most then approach your friends and family for their thoughts. Afterwards, when you’re sitting in that chair, you can show the final prospects to the hair designer and get their professional thoughts.

If the look you’re striving for would require a perm you may wish to consider other things. Whether or not you’ve had one before and if so, how long ago it was and what kind you want etc. Sometimes if your hair is long they’ll have to layer cut your hair in order to give you that perm.

If coloring is what you’re after it’s very important to go to a reputable salon. Accidents may occur (such as green hair or the Carrot-top look) and it’s always best to be in the hands of someone you know. Salon formulas are a little more complicated than merely going to the corner store. Self coloring your hair is perfectly alright, too. The market brands are a lot more advanced these days and nearly foolproof.

Sometimes your hair just needs some sprucing up. Tints can go a long ways for you instead of outright dyeing.

Whatever you decide take your time! Always go to the reputable people and don’t be afraid of being old fashioned! You’re unique, an individual so be yourself and go with your gut.
