Noteable Haircuts & Hairstyles Reference
Sidebang
The sidebang is a hairstyle that consists of long hair brushed forward over one eye, similar to a fringe/bangs but worn on one side only. As this style is popular with and connected to the fashioncore style of dress, the hair is usually black or blonde. It is more common among men than among women, though it was common for teenage girls to wear sidebangs with a ponytail in the mid-2000s.
Undercut
The "undercut" is also a means of cutting a deck of cards, used in certain magic tricks.
An undercut in progressThe undercut is a haircut much like a bowl cut except the ridge of the bowl is not where the cutting ends. The ridge of the bowl is lifted so the hair is clipper cut further up the side of the head an additional one to two inches. This allows the head to be shaken and the bowl look will always return to its regular shape. The sides may either be "white-walled" or cut to 1/8" length. The bottom of the back may be either faded or square cut.
An undercut refers more generally to any hairstyle where the sides and/or back of the head are closely trimmed or shaved while hair on top of the head remains long. Such hairstyles are popular among rivetheads and members of the cyber subculture.
Updo
Updo An updo is when the hair is pulled up for a more formal look. It can be as simple as a ponytail, or as fancy as curls all over the top of the head. The difference between simply putting hair up and an updo, is that updo's are intended for formal affairs.
Shag
a new hairstyle similar to the Beatles cut but with the side and back fringe flipped up, occasionally by the use of a hat, usually worn with medium-long haircuts.
