Face Shape and Choosing a Hairstyle
Not everyone can wear the same hairstyle and look good in it. What looks great on one person may look terrible on another. The most important factor in choosing a hairstyle is to choose one that suits your face shape and brings out your best features.
Knowing your face shape is the first step to choosing a hair style that takes your look from ordinary to fabulous. To get the most flattering hair style for you, you want to avoid repeating your face shape with your hair style. For example, a short puffy hair style will make a round face look rounder. A long and straight hair style makes a long face look longer. The object is to strike a balance that is the most complimentary to your natural features while creating interest. You should choose your hair style based on your facial proportions.
To determine if your face shape is oblong, oval or round, you will need to measure the length and width of your face and calculate a ratio of length to width. You can do this with a mirror or a picture. Measure for length from the point where the forehead meets the hairline to the bottom of the chin. Measure for width across the face at the widest point of the cheekbones. Divide the width measurement by the length.
The perfectly proportioned face is 1 1/2 time longer than the width, and is very rare. Knowing how far from perfect your face shape is will help you choose the perfect hair style to balance out your look.
