Don't Forget Your Sunblock
The application of sunblock, whenever out under the sun, is really very important. If today you are ignoring this, maybe next time you will be waking up having skin cancer or sun burns. Sun light in moderate amounts, however, will bring as several benefits and advantages. Sunlight can also improve acne and is a great source of vitamin D. So, like everything in this world, sunlight has its own good and bad effects.
Both Good and Bad
Warnings about the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays or UV rays are common nowadays. Statistics show that there has been two-thirds increase in the cases of skin cancer since 1990. The connectivity between the harmful effects of exposure to the ultraviolet rays and skin cancer are now being questioned. A research dine by the University of Manchester, England have showed that using sunblock creams can interfere with the production of vitamin D. on the other hand, it blocks some forms of cancer. The same thing that causes skin cancer helps in blocking some types of cancer. If the sun is blocked, there will only be a few sources of vitamin D. Sunscreen stops the damage in skin at the same time it stops a helpful vitamin enter the body.
Recognizing the advantages brought out by the sun, the British research proves that the body actually needs brief exposures to the sun. The definition of brief is a time ranging from 10 to 15 minutes at noon. Even if we know that several future researches will tell us many more or maybe disagree on our beliefs today, everything is worth the risk. Skin diseases such as melanoma and skin cancer are life threatening. If you really want to be tanned, using tanning lotions will give you the same results without the risk. They are easy to apply are very accessible. So make sure that you are full protected while ensuring you still get enough exposure to the sun. Although heredity may also be another cause of cancer, sun over exposure will still be another cause of it.
SPF
SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. The FDA requires all sunscreen products to put their SPF in their label. This is to give the costumers a chance to make sure they are provided with enough protection. And that the amount of SPF present in the product is right for their needs. It is a recommendation for suncsreens to have at least an SPF of 15. A lotion which provides an SPF of 20 is not twice as strong as one with SPF 15. It only provides approximately 97 percent protection from UVB rays while SPF 15 gives you a 93 percent protection.
Vitamin D
Vitamin d is produced whenever the sun is exposed to the sun's rays particularly ultraviolet b radiation. This vitamin plays a great role in maintaining several organs. It regulates the levels of phosphorus and calcium in the body by promoting their absorption from the food in the intestines as well as in the kidneys. It aids bone formation and mineralization which are important in maintaining a strong skeleton. It also inhibits parathyroid hormone secretion and affects the immune system by promoting phagocytosis, immunosupression, and anti-tumor activity. So whenever vitamin d production is blocked through the use of sunscreen, you are turning your back on several benefits and advantages.
