Nanotechnology is a very real science with unbelievable applications to science and medical fields with results constantly seen within the world around us.
It’s no secret that we’re always looking for ways to eliminate wrinkles and this is the latest idea on the very forefront of science.
Discovered by a Michigan State University chemical engineer, nanoparticles were used to smooth out the buckling and wrinkling of polymer films during manufacturing. This science can theoretically be included in the human arsenal against wrinkles. This technology seemingly crosses paths with science-fiction, but there was a time when utilizing lasers, botox and microdermabrasians seemed unlikely but nanoparticles may soon be added to the arsenal of beauty secrets.
The research is supported by the National Science Foundation and the Michigan Economic Development Corp. On all fronts, it's all about nailing a wrinkle before it starts.
Nanoparticles already have entered the cosmetic marketplace because they can penetrate deeper into the skin, transporting vitamins and other compounds to plump and smooth tissue. It’s hopeful that in the near future they can be injected beneath the thinning outer layer of the skin, the epidermis. As we age it tightens, stiffens and buckles while the thicker dermis remains pliable.
The nanoparticles can break up the compressive forces and redirect them. Once the force is reduced below buckling strain you have no wrinkles.
These particles have a wide array of uses in the cosmetic and health industries and can help the natural healing process after cosmetic surgery as well as the creation of artificial skin.
The ideas are in the early stages with health and safety concerns to be worked through. Labs are currently testing various cells and proteins to see if there are any toxic reactions.
