Vitamins for Healthy Nails

Weak and splitting nails can be a sign that there is something underlying wrong with you such as nutritional deficiency and should never be ignored. However, if you are just looking to improve the condition of your nails and would like some hints and tips on what vitamins are helpful in doing this look no further.

In order for your nails to be healthy and in perfect condition it is essential that you follow a diet that is rich in fruit and raw vegetables. You must also make sure that you drink plenty of water and other fruit juices. This is to ensure that you are getting the correct amounts of vitamins, minerals and enzymes which are needed for the body and nails to stay healthy and strong. The nails need many different vitamins for them to be in their best condition possible and these include:
• Vitamin A and Calcium - these are essential to nail health as a lack of them makes the nails brittle and dry. This can then lead to the nails splitting and cracking, if this happens your nails can be at risk from fungal infections which can be very painful and unsightly.

• Hydrochloric Acid -this is also used to prevent nails from splitting and breaking.

• Protein, Vitamin C and Folic Acid - these can help to reduce hangnails which can be very painful. White bands across the nails can also be a sign of protein deficiency.

• Vitamin B12 - this can prevent very dry nails that are very rounded and curved on the ends. Vitamin B12 can also help to combat nails which are darkening and look very unhealthy.

• Zinc - this helps to rid the nails of white spots which appear on the nail bed if there is a lack of Zinc in the diet.

• If your nails are cut and cracked this is a clear indication that you need more liquids and it is advisable that you try to drink 8 cups of water per day for maximum effect.

• If your cuticles and the skin around them is red colored you may have a poor metabolism for essential fatty acids.

• Supplements which contain royal jelly, spirulina and kelp which are rich in silica, zinc and Vitamin B also help to strengthen nails and improve their condition.

• Phosphorous which is found in carrot juice is another nail strengthening mineral.

As shown there are many different Vitamins that can be taken to improve you nail health. This can either be in the form of supplements or through your diet. You might also consider regular manicures, either performed by yourself or at a beauty salon. By doing this you will make sure that your nails and cuticles stay even healthier as they are being maintained from the inside and outside. In fact buffing the nails can help to release natural oils found in the nails. However you will only have this nourishing oil in the nail bed if you have made sure that you have enough vital Vitamins in your system.
